Certainly a very important event in the show calendar held in a first class venue, The Wiltshire attracts the very best in felines and their exhibitors.
Joint Managers, Jackie Pell and Elaine Robinson, with John Robinson as Promotions and Hall Manager and Lisa Talboys as Show Support Manager formed an industrious quartet. Club members helped them set out an excellent hall in which exhibitors of 536 cats were greeted by quantities of freebies. The hall was lined by trade stands selling all manner of cat comforts from tiny cloth mice to enormous outdoor climbing frames. To aid visitors, green rosettes were worn by exhibitors and every pen number card had the breed of the occupant on it. Throughout the show, John ran a spot prize competition for exhibitors. The club's Cat Competition, in which members' cats gathered points by winning at other shows during the past year, was concluded by the presentation of a magnum of champagne and a shield to the winner, Mrs Stanton.
Time passed quickly. Best of Variety awards were announced and the overall winning exhibitor in each variety was greeted by The Worshipful Mayor Of Swindon, Cllr Raymond Fisher. Mr Mayor also had the task of deciding whether the kitten or adult non-pedigree winner should be the Best. Winning cats were then installed in special decorated pens at the front of the hall to be admired by all.
Once again, the staff of the Oasis Leisure Centre coped well with the crowd of visitors and 350 exhibitors. Car parking was free for the latter and many enjoyed a hearty English breakfast and the facilities of the bar. Cats and people went home tired but happy.
